Ozzy is a Sweet Senior with a Massive Tumor

Writer's picture: Florida Urgent RescueFlorida Urgent Rescue

Ozzy is a sweet, 10-year-old senior who was at Lake County Animal Shelter. He had a massive tumor on his lower back near his spine, one of the biggest we've ever seen. Thanks to Courtney Cicchetti and her family offering to foster him, we were able to take him into FUR and get him the specialized veterinary care he needed.

After running bloodwork and xrays, Ozzy had surgery with Dr. Darrow and Dr. Bissell at Sandbridge Veterinary Center. Due to the size of the tumor, it was a very difficult surgery. The good news is that Dr. Darrow got the entire tumor out, but because it was so large, it was hard to get significant margins. We sent it out for pathology, and it came back as a sarcoma.

Courtney and our medical guru Kelly MacDade took him to Southeast Veterinary Oncology for a consultation with Dr. Neuman, and Ozzy will have Electrochemotherapy at SEVO next week.

Electrochemotherapy is a treatment that combines chemotherapy drugs with electrical impulses to enhance their effectiveness in killing tumor cells, targeting the exact spot where the tumor was.

In the meantime, this happy boy is enjoying getting spoiled by his foster family. Please keep Ozzy in your prayers as he undergoes this treatment.  𝗙𝗨𝗥 𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗧𝗛𝗟𝗬 𝗚𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗠

Sick and injured animals like Ozzy need help fast. Every donation helps, but Monthly donors give us flexibility to respond immediately when there is an emergency. When there is a hoarding case or a hurricane, a dog with a gunshot wound or a cruelty case, we have to act quickly. We don't have time to do a fundraiser, and wait for those funds to get to us. Your monthly donation can help us save lives again and again.

3X YOUR IMPACT! If you sign up as a monthly donor, your new monthly donation is TRIPLED through 3/31/25 thanks to generous matching donors! Get more information at: www.floridaurgentrescue.org/donatemonthly
