Adonis Was in Such Bad Shape They Didn't Think He'd Survive the Night

After a lot of love and TLC, and the best vet care available, Adonis is now happily adopted!

Adonis Was in Such Bad Shape They Didn't Think He'd Survive the Night

Adonis came into a rural shelter with a massive tumor in his ear, cherry eyes, sores and wounds all over his body, and he couldn't even stand up. The shelter staff was worried that he wouldn't survive the night.

We took Adonis into FUR and rushed him to Palm Valley Veterinary Center, where Dr. Mack immediately hospitalized him. In addition to heartworms, he was loaded with parasites and he was dangerously anemic. It wasn’t safe for him to have surgery, so he was hospitalized for several weeks. When he was healthy enough for surgery, Dr. Mack removed the large tumor in his ear, and surgically corrected his cherry eyes. Amazingly, the tumor in his ear was not malignant, and Dr. Mack did such a good job on his ear that we had to double and triple check to see where the incision was.

Since his surgery, Adonis has had multiple vet appointments, including an echocardiogram with Dr. Walker at Capital Vet Veterinary Specialists to make sure his heart is ok, a followup with Dr. Brown at Animal Eye Clinic to check his eyes, and numerous rechecks and bloodwork with Dr. Mack.

We're excited to announce that Adonis is now happily adopted and living in Iowa with his new Dad Shawn. He's already been to his new vet in Iowa, and he's getting settled in his new home.

After a lifetime of neglect, he finally got the love and care he deserved. Adonis had a lot of people on his team who made this possible. A HUGE Thank You to Diane Dello Russo, Linda Fontenot, Shannon Milender, and everyone else who donated to help him. Adonis had a dream Veterinary team of Dr. Mack and the staff at Palm Valley Veterinary Center, Dr. Brown the staff at Animal Eye clinic, and Dr. Walker and the staff at Capital Vet.

When he was ready to leave the vet and we didn't have a foster available, Lynn, Tish and the team at Sunland Acres came to the rescue once again, giving him special care, attention and TLC while he recovered. A lot of volunteers pitched in to help, including: Kelly Powell, Lori Olijar, Jessica Cromer and Kelly MacDade, who took him to countless vet appointments, and Valerie Losego, who juggled appointments and lined up volunteers to transport. Adonis hitched a ride with Kevin Dykes and two Union County dogs going to Ohio, and Shawn drove to Ohio from Iowa to meet them and pick him up.

Thank you Erin Connolly for introducing Adonis to Shawn, and thank you Kevin Dykes, for transporting him to Ohio. Finally, thank you Shawn for opening up your heart and your home to this sweet senior.
We never know what we're signing up for when we take in sick or injured animals. All we know is that they need help.  Adonis faced a tough uphill battle, and we are thrilled that he's doing so well and excited for his new life with Shawn. Thank you to everyone who helped save this sweet boy!
